Founder and Council Member
Gilbert Bear Heart
An Intertribal organization has been established in Central California dedicated to serving Indigenous people of all groups. Kuksu Ma-hiz Tribe is the vision and dream of many Indigenous people throughout California and across the nation. Gilbert Bear Heart, the founder of Kuksu Ma-hiz Tribe, not only visualized such an organization but also executed it. He proposed a small group of women to help him master a plan to bring his dream to life. To commit to serve and uphold a path of mutual respect in supporting Indigenous people from not only California but from the Nation.
Our focus is to uphold our rights in practicing our ceremonies, traditions, education, religious presets, healing methods, arts, music and to maintain these rights for the generations yet to come.
To provide tangible resources as we come together to enforce the same enthusiasm in living the lifestyle we choose. Today we carry a passion in us that trusts this mission and all our time and efforts to make this happen. We are stepping into this clearly and will work towards results. Imagine if you will that our children and grandchildren someday inherit what was once a dream and look back at those of us who dared to make the dream come true.
Mary Goodfeathers is a Mescalero Apache, born in Texas and raised in California. As a native traditionalist and ceremonialist, she embodies the matrilineal role, gifts, and duties that have been endowed to her by the great spirit. Her matriarchal gifts and connection to the spiritual world allow her to promote and facilitate cultural teachings for Indigenous people. This has included establishing the “Innergy Wellness Center” where she conducts the Sun Rays sweat lodge in Fresno, CA. She often is found sitting in sacred circles with people from various tribes.
For her commitment and good heart, Mary Goodfeathers, has been appointed Clan Mother and Elder of the Kuksu Ma-hiz inter-tribal organization. She aims to preserve the language, culture, songs, and the traditional dances for this generation, and all generations to come.
“My responsibility is to be the best ambassador for my people that I can be. I have taken an oath to hold a lifetime position. My belief is Clan Mothers and Elders have the sacred responsibility for all life, to serve and protect children, elders, tribal members, and mother earth”.
