"When I received my card in the mail, I remember holding it in my hands just admiring it. For the first time, I felt connected to my roots. I always knew I was Native, but the card gave revalidation. I felt I was finally acknowledged in belonging deep within myself. Felt very happy, honored to have recognition and I'm grateful. "

"When I received my tribal card, I had mixed emotions. Happy because I felt I could finally "officially" say I was native and back it up and confused because I have always felt that I was native and have always taken a liking to many of the spiritual practices (something always drew me to the culture) but knew that I wasn't that in touch with that part of my life. Since becoming official, I have become more interested in taking on life's obstacles in a more spiritual manner rather than how. society expects me to react to these obstacles and do things. I have a better understanding and see life, as well as the world, differently. I am also proud that I can pass this beautiful culture, teachings and way of living to my children who will hopefully continue to represent and acknowledge being Native along with their other cultures for generations to come.

Receiving my Kuksu Ma-hiz ID card was an AMAZING felling. It's exciting to know more about my heritage, but unsure at the same time on how to navigate my life with my new ID card. I believe my ID card can open doors for me and also gives me the opportunity to let others know about my culture and beliefs.

Being recognized for who you are as being part indigenous, has been my dream for over 62 years. Being able to receive both card and certificate for being Indigenous is simply icing on the cake. It’s a feeling that’s truly hard to explain. Personally it’s a feeling that makes you want to shout out “finally”. But what makes it even nicer is being a part of the Kuksu Ma-hiz Nation. A Nation that does not solely recognize one group of Indigenous people, but all Indigenous people, for we are all brothers and sisters. The Tribal Clan Mother of the Kuksu Ma-hiz Nation is a blessing among the Nation of Kuksu Ma-hiz, with her wisdom and faith. I am both a honored and proud member of the Kuksu Ma-hiz Nation. May the Tribal Mother continue to walk in beauty.
