The sweat lodge is usually a low profile hut, dome-shaped or oblong, made of natural materials such as wood branches and a natural cloth. The structure is the lodge, and the ceremony performed within the structure may be referred to as a purification or sweat ceremony. All ceremonies held in the sweat lodge are done with the guidance of a medicine man/woman or elder who has experience and will provide guidance to maintain a safe environment for purification or shamanic journey.
